Bald Eagle mantling prey in soft early morning light, Kachemak Bay, Alaska. Nikon D700 with Sigma 50-500mm @ 320 mm, 1/2000 sec, f/8.0 ISO 320 in Manual mode with Auto ISO at - 1/3 compensation, handheld.
Just another perfect day in Alaska
Today is my second day in Alaska turned and with the first photography session over it already is better than the first day which was excellent already. Along with friends and guests Alan Murphy, Brutus Östling, and Scott Elowitz our morning was nothing short of Alaskan paradise for eagle photography!
Nikon D4 (thanks to Alan Murphy) Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4G ED VR, 1/8000 F4, Manual mode, Dynamic Area-AF, handheld.
Alan was kind enough allow me to borrow his new D4 for a few minutes, thanks Alan! With the 300mm F2/8 VR the D4 was just downright amazing. Above is a keeper I managed to make, the camera was very quick and responsive, it will take some getting used to it when my D4 arrives.
Brutus has a new Canon EOS-1D X along on this trip with the new 300mm and 400mm EF lenses. The camera looks and feels great also and with the 300mm it seems to be a killer combo. Brutus reports that he is very happy with the AF and high ISO noise.
More on the all of the above soon but I have an afternoon photography session to get to right now.
